Shaolin Chin Na, although it does not exist as a separate system in and of itself, is a very effective
method of controlling, disabling, and defeating an attacker. Using
joint-locking, pressure point stimulation, and cavity strikes, Shaolin Chin
Na (Siu Lum Kum Na in Cantonese) is a tool of most Systems of Chinese
Martial Arts. Consisting of 108 techniques, Shaolin Chin Na is typically
divided into two categories, Chin (Kum) and Na.
There are 72 Kum techniques
and 36 Na techniques. Respectively they are large seizing techniques and
smaller locking and controlling techniques. Choy Li Fut contains all 108
techniques of Siu Lum Kum Na along with all the reversals (called "anti-chin
na") and variations of each of them. Also Tai Chi Chuan has its own style of
chin na referred to as Tai Chi Chin Na it also contains the 108 but with
slight variations in keeping with the Tai Chi Chuan principles of yin and
yang.
